Acadia
Things have been quite busy at work lately so traveling has been kept to a minimum. Recently we did get a chance to head over to Chicago for a weekend and got to explore some of the sights there. Of course, I also had to squeeze in a special meal. Last time I was in Chicago I visited Topolobampo and Grace, so this around I went a different restaurant, the 2-Star Michelin rated Acadia.
Here is what we had to eat on our visit on March 26, 2016:
Suzuki Bass - Apple, avocado, grapefruit, buttermilk
Beet - Rose, champagne, peekytoe crab, caviar
Isle au Haut Scallop - Radishes, whey, dill
Variety of butters for bread (yogurt, softened, tomato)
Pork Belly - Fermented salsify, lardo, Iberico consomme
Potato - Burgundy truffle, jamon Iberico, quail egg
Miyazaki Beef - Apple, celery, cheddar, bone marrow
Spanish Octopus - Artichoke, olive, tangerine, ciabatta
Farro - Olives, tomato
Veal Sweetbreads - Whole grain mustard ice cream, kraut
Elysian Fields Lamb - Smoked duxelle, Maine blueberry, sauce diane, lichen
Cheese - Whipped blue cheese, pomegranate, dates
Coconut Custard - Jasmine gelee, green apple sorbet, shiso
Avocado - Kyoto coffee, vanilla, basil
While there were a couple of courses that we really enjoyed (I mean, hard to go wrong with Japanese Miyazaki A5 wagyu beef), I left dinner at Acadia a bit disappointed. The food, while certainly above average and worthy of Michelin recognition, felt a little bit flat when compared to other two stars I’ve been to. I think, on food alone, Acadia is more akin to some of the one star restaurants I’ve experienced.
