Kapa Hale
I’ve been a fan of Chef Keaka Lee and enjoyed his food during his time at P&L. I was happy to hear that he opened up his own restaurant in Kahala, just behind the mall. This visit was for brunch but Kapa Hale also serves a full lunch and dinner menu as well.
Kapa Hale dining room on the Pahoa Street side of the restaurant
The space is divided into two sections. I prefer the dining area on the Pahoa side as it is a bit brighter due to the sliding glass doors that open to the outside. Also, for COVID safety purposes, the fresh air and cross ventilation is an added bonus.
This is what I tried during brunch on February 21, 2021:
House Yogurt (split in two portions) - Granola, pistachio, seasonal fruit, agave
Lemon Poppy Seed Loaf - Guava whipped butter
Shaka-Shuka - Spicy stewed egg, peppers, tomato, house focaccia
KH Avocado Toast - Local avocados, furikake-zaatar, pickled radish, soft boiled egg
KFC Chicken & Waffle - Keaka’s Fired Chicken country gravy, grilled lemon honey
Pipikaula Short Ribs (compliments of the kitchen) - Lomi lomi tomato, polenta
It was great to see chef in his new space! Overall I enjoyed everything but in particular the short ribs and chicken/waffles were flavorful and well executed. I’m sure to be back for lunch and dinner!
